In the year circa 1996, I was asked to visit a certain woman at the VT State Mental hospital who was committed due to an incident<\/a> at the Eveready Battery Plant located in Bennington. I accepted the invitation and proceeded to Waterbury, Vermont where the hospital was located. Having arrived and entered the main building, I remember how cold\/clinical the VT State atmosphere was as I passed by many worker\u2019s desks when being escorted to the visiting room. Patients where on one side of a glass and visitors on the other side. My visit with E. Teague was ministry based upon a Jesus\/Christian worldview to encourage her. We introduced ourselves to each other and started to converse. I quickly sensed fear in E. Teague. It was imparted that the secular State mental health servants employed were ready to drug her further for wrong thinking and conversation, so I carefully chose my words.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While still in conversation with E. Teague, in came a young man who sat adjacent to me. He was there to visit his father who he said perceived and proclaimed himself to be \u201cJesus Christ.\u201d  This man (name kept confidential) overheard my Christian conversation with E. Teague and directly caught my attention to openly declare: \u201cI\u2019m Jesus Christ.\u201d  Let me be very concise in saying that my rebuttal left him speechless, and after a long minute, openly confessed that he was not in fact \u201cJesus Christ.\u201d The son and I left the visiting room together soon after, and, then for at least an hour, talked in his car parked<\/strong><\/strong> outside the state hospital. About two months later, I learned of the father’s release back to civilization; I ended up speaking on the phone with him. The father made known to me the heavy amounts of psycho drugs he was placed on by the Vermont authorities at that time to gain his release from the hospital. Surely, I can relate to the voices of psychiatric survivors and their speaking out about the mental health treatment in Vermont.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a> How interesting that World Mental Health Day<\/a> is on October 10; that is, 10-10. Holy Scripture John 10:10 records the Words of Jesus: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”<\/strong> How can anyone have mental “health” without getting answers to some of life’s most basic questions early in life: Is there God? Who am I? Why was I born? Where do I find community and love?
